Product Overview

Líneas Aéreas Privadas Argentinas, (LAPA) was an airline based in Argentina. The airline began operation in 1977. One year later started charter and scheduled services. It went bankrupt in 2003. Of note: LAPA Flight 3142 crashed at the Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires on 31 August 1999 at 20:54 local time, shortly after take-off. An alarm was sounding during take off indicating the aircraft's flaps were retracted. The alarm, whose cause the pilots could not determine was ignored and because the aircraft had reached maximum take-off speed, was unable to stop before the end of the runway and continued beyond the ramp, crossed a road dragging a car with it and finally colliding with road construction equipment. Gasoline spilled over the hot engines and leaking caused incineration and total destruction of the plane as well as resulting in 65 fatalities, 17 severely injured, and several with minor injuries, making it one of the deadliest accidents in the history of Argentinian aviation.
