Piaggio is an Italian manufacturer of cars, planes, motorcycles, and perhaps most famously Vespa motor scooters. They also market scooters under their own moniker, which leads to some confusion that they are a competitor of Vespa, which they are not. The company was founded by Rinaldo Piaggio in 1884, initially producing train engines and carriages. During World War I the company focused on producing airplanes.
