Product Overview

The Vectrex was one of those bizarre products of the early electronic home entertainment market that was both ahead of its time and prematurely obsolete. An 8-bit game console developed by General Consumer Electric (GCE) and later bought by Milton Bradley, it was unique in that it utilized arcade-style vector graphics drawn on an integrated CRT - no other console before or after the Vectrex was configured like this. Released in late 1982 for $199, its design is strangely similar to the Apple Macintosh, released 2 years later. It was also the first system to offer a 3D Peripheral (The Vectrex 3-D Viewer), predating the Sega Master System's SegaScope 3D by about six years. The Vectrex was sold for about two years before going the way of so many other similar systems of that time, but it is still held in reverence by those few who have experienced it.
